Counselling@ is a registered NPO and PBO. The chairperson, Dr. Hanlie Meyer, is a registered Counselling Psychologist and the other members of the board of Counselling@ are in professions which enable them to be supportive in the effort to bring free of charge counselling to different communities.

The counselling services we are able to make available to our communities include, but are not limited to the following areas of primary preventative and remedial counselling:

·         Counselling members of the community exposed to trauma

·         Counselling members of the community exposed to abuse

·         Parenting skills

·         Empowering teachers to handle disciplinary problems as well as managing learners with difficulties and   disabilities

·         Debriefing teachers, care workers and other care givers in the communities who deal with extremely stressful and traumatic situations

·         Counselling and emotional support to people who live with serious conditions and/or disabilities

·         End of life counselling for terminally ill people and their families

·         Bereavement counselling

·         Life Skills training for learners and community members

·         Sexual education for learners

·         Counselling and support to employees of NGO’s, FBO’s and all other service providers to prevent burnout

·         Participation in existing programs i.e. the current anti drug program, the Tshwane Life Skills program– to name a few.

·         Debriefing and training of present HIV care workers

·         Support groups for bereaved parents and other members of the community, HIV/AIDS infected patients, cancer patients and their families, care workers in all areas of service, etc

·         Training lay counsellors and translators to render a professional service to the members of the community in their mother tongue.

·         According to the needs of the communities we will in collaboration with MESITES develop SETA accredited courses to train selected members from the community to become counsellors, thus empowering people and creating accessible career paths.

The counsellors working in these facilities will work under the direct supervision of registered Psychologists. 

Counselling@ has a few distinct goals:

• As partners in the PHCO program (Primary Health Care Outreach) we endeavour to facilitate the integration of the services rendered by various role players in the communities where we are involved. This includes amongst others the NPO’s, NGO’s, FBO’s and various government departments ( i.e. HIV/AIDS Unit, LDAC, the door to door workers from the Health Posts, Department of Education as well as the Department of Social Development).
• We are also research partners in the PHCO program – which aims at a better understanding of the demographics of the different communities in order to uplift the communities and render more appropriate services.To make counselling services previously unavailable to communities available and accessible to these communities. The aim is to render these services free of charge.
• Through professional counselling we hope to effect growth in our people – i.e. greater openness to discuss personal problems which they previously could not discuss due to cultural restrictions and or financial restrictions.  This we hope would reflect in an improved ability to manage stress which in its turn might lead to less addiction, less crime and more hope – in short: to a better South Africa.
• To train potential counsellors through partnership with MESITES – a private academy that trains counsellors. This includes the capacitating of lay counsellors who are already ministering to people in the communities.
• To set up a professional system of referral, mentoring, supervision and training.
